The House is scheduled to consider today (Sept. 24) a short-term continuing resolution to keep the government running through Oct. 16 that has the effect of extending all existing programs at the same funding levels. This includes Trade Adjustment Assistance and the Export-Import Bank, both of which were set to expire on Sept. 30.

The Senate on today (Sept. 24) approved legislation implementing a free-trade agreement with Jordan after Sen. Phil Gramm (R-TX) dropped his objections based on the inclusion of labor and environmental obligations in the FTA. Gramm had argued that the FTA would allow Jordan to challenge a U.S. decision to drill for oil in Alaska backed by trade sanctions.
