The Canadian government is poised to start charging a 10 percent ad valorem export charge on Canadian softwood lumber exports to the United States in light of the fact that a tribunal convened under the U.S.-Canada Softwood Lumber Agreement (SLA) last year found Canada had breached the terms of that agreement, sources said.
