President Barack Obama today (Sept. 23) assured China's Premier Wen Jiabao that the administration had not taken a position on the currency legislation that is scheduled to be voted on by the House Ways and Means Committee on Friday, an administration official said today.

The House leadership plans to go forward next week with a vote on a China currency bill, which the House Ways and Means Committee is scheduled to consider on Sept. 24, according to House aides.

House Ways and Means Chairman Sander Levin (D-MI) said today (Sept. 22) that the decision on whether or when to bring to the House floor the China currency legislation his panel is scheduled to mark up in two days is still open and will in part depend on how long the House is in session.
