The Treasury Department announced today (Oct. 15) that it is delaying its semiannual report on exchange rate policies in order to press China on the value of its currency at next month's G-20 meeting. The announcement states that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner recognizes that the appreciation of China's currency accelerated in September.

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk today (Oct. 15) announced that he is accepting the Section 301 petition filed by the United Steelworkers (USW) union alleging a wide range of Chinese subsidies and policies that unfairly affect trade and investment in green technologies, to the detriment of U.S. companies and workers.

The chairman of the Senate Finance Committee this week pressed senior Chinese trade officials during a trip to Beijing to establish timelines for appreciating China's currency and for phasing out its discriminatory 'indigenous innovation' policies, according to statements released by his office.
