The Finance Committee today (Jan. 27) kicked off the markup of the economic stimulus bill that includes provisions prohibiting U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) from recouping any duties from trade remedy cases collected on imports from Canada and Mexico and distributed under the Continued Dumping and Subsidy Offset Act (CDSOA), also known as the Byrd amendment.

Sens. Deborah Stabenow (D-MI) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME) today (Jan. 27) decided not to offer their amendment to the economic stimulus bill expanding the Trade Adjustment Assistance program pending further bipartisan and bicameral negotiations on the issue.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) has just issued his blueprint for an economic stimulus package and scheduled a markup on Jan. 27. The Finance blueprint contains an extension of the Trade Adjustment Assistance program to Dec. 31, 2010, retroactively effective to Jan. 1, 2008.
