The Senate Finance Committee has tentatively scheduled a markup of customs reauthorization legislation for Sept. 30, but sources this week said there was a good chance that could slip as Congress concentrates on other priorities before adjourning in early October for the fall campaign season.

Three House chairmen, including House Homeland Security Committee Bennie Thompson (D-MS), are expecting by next week that the Obama administration deliver a detailed report on its ability to meet a 2012 deadline by which all in-bound cargo shipped to the U.S. will be scanned for national security reasons.
