A draft final list of goods to be covered by the World Trade Organization plurilateral Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA) will not be submitted at the Nairobi ministerial next week as negotiators failed to converge on a common list of products at last week's negotiating round, according to EU officials.

Trade officials negotiating the Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA) over the past two months have removed nearly 300 products from serious consideration to be covered by the deal in hopes of presenting and agreeing upon a draft final list of goods at the Dec. 15-18 WTO Nairobi Ministerial, according to Geneva sources.

A European environmental advocacy group on Wednesday (Sept. 16) leaked what it claims is the list of 665 products nominated for tariff elimination in the negotiations for the Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA) and charged that the vast majority of these items do not contribute to the objective of improving the environment.

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman has requested the U.S. International Trade Commission to assess the economic impact of eliminating nearly 400 tariff lines, nearly all of which have been proposed by the other World Trade Organization countries participating in the Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA).
