House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) avoided stripping out Export-Import Bank renewal provisions from the Senate-passed highway bill -- instead opting to subject it to an open amendment process on the House floor -- out of deference to the majority of the House GOP who support renewing the bank, a Ryan spokesman signaled Tuesday (Nov. 3).

The White House on Monday (Nov. 2) praised a provision reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank contained in a version of a long-term highway bill slated to be considered on the House floor this week, and warned lawmakers against amending the Ex-Im language in ways that would hamstring the lender.
