The co-chairman of the House Textile Caucus are urging House members to support their call for reopening the textile provisions of the U.S.-Korea free trade agreement, which they charge is unfair to U.S. textile producers in its immediate tariff cuts for sensitive items, rules of origin and ineffective enforcement provisions.
The settlement late last month of an investor-state lawsuit brought under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) by a U.S. paper company against the government of Canada is raising questions over how the Canadian federal government will in future deal with settlements rising from actions by provincial governments.
Within the negotiations to establish a Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, the United States is pursuing multiple approaches to advancing the goal of achieving "regulatory coherence" among participating countries in an effort to ease barriers to exports, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Barbara Weisel said last week.
