The House this afternoon (Dec. 11) approved by voice vote under suspension of the rules a bill that revokes the Bush administration's termination of duty-free access for Indian and Thai jewelry under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) on July 1, 2007. The bill also urges President Bush in non-binding resolution language to reconsider the termination of GSP benefits invoked that day for other products under certain conditions.

A final civil nuclear cooperation deal struck last week between the U.S. and India reflects two major Indian demands by creating a multinational strategic fuel reserve that would feed India’s reactors if there is a disruption of the U.S. supply and by giving India the right to reprocess spent fuel under certain conditions.
