The House Ways and Means Committee majority staff has hired a former senior adviser to the Treasury Department to work on issues related to the U.S.-Colombia free trade agreement and to help support the chairman's goal of passing the Colombia FTA, as well as pending deals with South Korea and Panama, by July 1.

The $3.7-trillion budget unveiled on Feb. 14 by President Obama shows clearly that trade is an administration priority by boosting funding for the International Trade Administration (ITA) by tens of millions of dollars and increasing funds for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative by about 5 percent over this year's level.

The Obama administration today (Feb. 4) declined to name China as a currency manipulator seeking to gain an unfair trade advantage in the Treasury Department’s overdue bi-annual report to Congress on international exchange rates.
