The United States and least-developed countries (LDCs) have agreed on a 17-year extension of a waiver exempting LDCs from implementing World Trade Organization obligations on the protection of pharmaceutical patents and undisclosed clinical test data, according to a Bangladeshi government official.

The World Trade Organization today (Oct. 16) suspended the ongoing meeting of the Council on Trade-Related Aspects Of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) until early next week, as the U.S. and least developed countries (LDCs) searched for a compromise on a waiver of their obligations related to the protection of pharmaceutical patents and undisclosed clinical test data.
